Thanks Dove...that is very strange because Hosta's photo has a file size of 11MB and mine has a file size of 344KB, so my file size is roughly 32 times smaller than Hosta's and should load much faster.
And here is a resized version of Hosta's ducks, same display size for me (I'm not running a super HD, monitor or anything), but the file size is 265kb which is 1/42 the size of the original.
To put that into perspective, I could have 42 images of my garden for one of Hosta's.
However, seeing as Nora has given us the choice of four image sizes that vary from 8MB to 12MB, I wonder if there is any room at all for anything else. This is an instant loose in my opinion.
A gallery option and/or thumbnail click-through from smaller resolution versions to larger ones might be a solution.
I'm wondering if this sites piggybacking of another has something to do with the different download speeds?, because an 11MB image should not load faster than a 344KB image.

These are the estimated download times from download-time.com for home connections for a 12MB file:
So it may be fine for some, but not all.

1.5MB for an avatar is clearly ridiculous.
