Artificial Grass

Hi, looking for some advice.
I am laying artificial grass on my back garden. Its around 40sqm. I don't think I can manage to dig the existing grass out so I thought I could raise the lawn with a timber border then cover the existing grass with membrane and 3 or 4 inch sub base. Would this be ok ? Or would the grass rot unevenly ?
Thanks for any help with this.
Thomas.

    Hi
I'm no expert on artificial grass but I believe it should be layed on a concrete base with ballast or hardcore sub base , similar process to laying slabs

Interesting as most site are stating that the lawn will need to be removed to an average 80mm depth and gravel layed including a membrane. Like any walk on surface it needs a consolidated base
  • Thanks for the info guys.

You do realise that you can still get weeds in artificial grass.  Presents from the birds.

An elderly couple down the road from us had artificial turf laid a few months ago.  They must be feeling so smug now as they have the only green lawn in the area.

All the clover is keeping mine looking green KT53.
Can I be smug too? 😁

The clover here is wonderful . I've never seen it under the, usually lush, grass and doesn't it smell divine?

Even the clover and moss is going brown here.
