Nibbles!

Well.... I’m not happy! Something has been at my Carex! Now I immediately thought rabbit, but I have NEVER seen a rabbit in my garden! It’s possible we have fieldsaround us, but in 5 years I haven’t witnessed 1! Any other suggestions in case I’m missing something? They left all the plants in between!

  • Deer? But probably rabbits, I should think. Near here rabbits have been in short supply in recent years following an outbreak of myxamatosis but they're back in force this year including one who seems to have taken up residence in my supposedly newly rabbit-proofed garden!

Maybe its using them for nest building!

Yes it’s made itself completely at home in the log piles around the pond edge, it’s not too bothered by my presence and let me get the camera really close, while it sat munching! I’ve just posted a thread in Wildlife Gardening as although I’m chuffed to bits, I’m also a bit concerned- 1 will lead to a lot more and I’ve just installed a raised bed for veg!!!
  • Ah - I should have thought of that too! I have plenty of voles as well but they don't seem to damage anything except vegetables so I use barriers around vulnerable crops. Not so easy in a flower garden though as most barriers don't look that great.
