Probably Arum maculatum ; commonly known as 'Lords and Ladies' ; has attractive flower spathe in early summer , followed by red berries in autumn . Mildly toxic but not dangerous . Can become a bit invasive if not controlled , otherwise harmless .
I don't know about harmless. When I was a young mother with 2 small children (nearly 40 years ago) they ate some of the berries. They screamed and screamed because the berries burn as they are swallowed. I had to rush off to A & E and they were treated as an emergency. They are mildly toxic so my children were OK but very unpleasant and painful.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I agree with nut and Paul, although it is incredibly prolific in our garde. It pops up everywhere and is a devil to remove. Having said that I wouldn't consider Arum maculatum or Lords and Ladies to be an unattractive plant and it does die down later in the year, only to return again the following early spring time.
