Araucaria

SprecksSprecks Posts: 10
I have an Araucaria in a pot which has now reached my ceiling, not sure what to do as to whether i should cut it off, or let it just bend over and see what happens?  I am very fond of this indoor tree having had it since a small pot plant, now  over 15 years old, originally saw one in the house at Beaulieu and admired it,  sought one out to buy and mine is now larger than that if anyone knows the one I mean , advice please./

    I'm guessing it's A. Heterophylla

If it’s the Norfolk Island one, I don’t think chopping the top off will make it look good, but I’m not sure if it will develop side branches (other leaders) either. They were valued for shipping masts in the early days of settlement.

Me too, but I do not think that pruning will cause it to branch or look good.
ditto to both, which is why I asked if OP could post a photo. Without one we're just guessing.

unfortunately not very computer literate enough to post a photo, it still has plenty of new growth on the existing branches, seems to like living with me!! My husband thinks I should cut it off, but I am reluctant to as I don't want to kill it, at the moment it looks like a bent over thumb at the ceiling, it is a heterophylla variety.  Your advice much appreciated

Thanks, I have read his instructions, certainly I am extremely fond of this plant, usually useless with indoor plants, and do not want to lose it, his attitude in his article was he was'nt too bothered if it lived or not after pruning, I think I will play a wait a bit longer and see what happens!!  I have tried to post two photos, but they do not seem to have come through.
