Rose disease

My rose tree Kathleen Harrop has developed white chalky spots all along its bark. Thought it may be scale but it doesn’t seem like them. Anyone know what it is and any idea how to treat it. Would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Val

Sorry, I zoomed the image and they do look like scales. Take a piece of cotton, dip in alcohol and rub against the blighters (beware of the thorns).
  • Thanks DimWit, I have gin or vodka, do you think that would do. Val

Dunno, valerie, give it a try. The worst you'll do is have a lot of wasted revellers!

Think it might be scurfy rose scale  https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/815955/is-this-scurfy-rose-scale

If you have other uses for the gin and vodka, B)   methylated spirits, turps or white spirit would do the job.

Glad you asked that, 2 of my roses have it for the first time. Any chance it will just go away by itself? One climbing rose, Falstaff, is covered in prickles.

From what I've read the adults will fly off to colonise other roses ... I'd get rid of them if I were you BL.
