Evergreen Ceanothus x2 in decline

Dave HumbyDave Humby Posts: 1,145
We have two evergreen Ceanothus which both look in a very poor state. I’ve not noticed them look this way in past winters.

They are located in different parts of the garden and I’m guessing they are of similar age looking at the trunks and overall size. I’ve read that they have a finite lifetime so could this be the reason for their deterioration or could it be related to the tough winter?

Shall I leave them and see if they show any signs of recovery or does it look like they have run their course?

They are suited best to Californian weather, so not much delighted with snow.

Snow & wind indeed, see if they pick themselves up later on. Did you notice the damage after the recent cold spell rather than the February one?

    California Lilac indeed
