How big is the space?  Cornus kousa is lovely and so is cornus controversa variegata if you have the space to enjoy their spreading branches.

Sorry, no pics.  This is a new garden and at last I have the soil to grow them but friends of mine in Belgium have both and they are both attractive trees so have a wee google for images.

Not big then.   I suggest that you check the eventual height and width of any tree you choose to make sure they have room to spread without feeling cramped and competing for space, light, nutrients and water.

Also consider how much they may overhang your neighbours who will be entitled to cut off any branches they don't want over their garden and thus spoil the overall form of the tree and make sure you leave yourself a sunny spot for sitting out too..
