On last week's GW Monty used a shredded Christmas tree as an ericaceous mulch. Would any conifer material have the same ericaceous property, e.g. cypress clippings?

I have read all over that cypress are highly acidic.
I used to have one in a house I moved into and assumed the soil area under it would have been acidified by the tree over the years. Have I missed something?
