Gardening newbie - help with preparing a lawn
Hello.
I‘m new here and new to gardening.
We’ve recently moved to a new house and we have a small patch of garden which is in disarray currently. I would like to get some tips on how to grow a garden with a nice green lawn and some colourful flowers.
I live in Pune, India and weather is pleasant through the year (except the next couple of months when day temperature reach up to 40 deg C. We get ample sunshine (6-8 hrs a day). The lawn is about 200sqft in area.
The attached image gives you an idea of how the garden looks currently.
I have ample time on hand and would appreciate help with tools and techniques I need to deploy in making this a eye candy.
Thanks in advance.
Sumeet

I am guessing though that you will need some kind of irrigation system and also a grass that can cope with your climate.
Are there any garden centres where you could ask about suitable grass varieties, or maybe public gardens with good lawns (or even private ones!) where you could ask the gardener? Failing that, a good internet search will have to suffice.
The area will need to be prepared with a decent layer of good soil, with plenty of organic matter to aid moisture retention, levelled and firmed, before either seeding or laying turf. This is best done when there is a gentle warmth with the likelihood of some rain, unless you can water it well yourself.
