Mimosa Tree

Hi. I live in N Ireland on the most easterly point, about 1/2 mike from the sea, an someone advise about mimosa trees. Is it suitable to grow in our Climote, if so, advice on variety and how to plant/care for it.
Quite new to gardening and would appreciate help.

With trees, it's important to see what's growing locally. Especially into mature trees. The only hardiest tree I know and seen growing into really mature specimens here where I'm based in the South East are Acacia Dealbata and sometimes the smaller Subalpina.

They suit a sheltered warm southerly wall or against a house or high boundary. They need neutral to acidic soils to have the blue leaves, otherwise they'll go yellow on alkaline soils. The soils should be free draining and never waterlogged. Young trees need protection from frost, so if your area has frost regularly, it will not be ideal. They can take frost once they form a big canopy and get older.

They don't like cold salty winds, either. I live in the Isle of Wight and they grow vigorously when out of the wind but struggle and often die in the full blast.
