Standard roses in pots

I have 2 standard roses in pots for that 3 years (at least). They don't grow great and I was wondering if its to late to prune them and shall change the compost in the pots?

    Noob to the forum plus have only tried this myself this year so take this with a grain of salt.

    It's not too late to prune them. Always give them a yearly prune, usually in early spring time. This action will normally help the shrub rejuvenate and encourage fresh growth further in. Since they are growing in pots, you may need to even re-pot if they've been growing for 3 years. Knock it out of the pot to see if it's root-bound, and if so, tease the roots out and re-pot into a larger size pot. Refresh with new compost. You can scrape the top layer off and lay new compost or even well-rotted manure.

    Make sure your pots are placed in a sunny spot, roses normally need the sun to produce blooms. They will also need feeding during the summer months.
