Primulas auriculas

Hello,

I posted this on the problem section but may be is fine here too.
I am completely new to Auriculas, but wanted to give a try. I am in the mediterranean coast of northern Spain, with hot summer (+30°C) and warm winters, even that this winter has been really cold, we had snow this yeaf which is pretty rare. I have bought some auriculas in France, and they just arrived. I am between puting them in the northwest or in the northeast side of the house:
In the northwest side there's no sun in winter, and in summer is cool all day but there is sun late afternoon, around 7 pm till night.
In the northeast side of the house there's only sun in the morning, till 12.30 or 1 pm. Then it's shaded and cool for the rest of the day.

I would really appreciate your help deciding where to locate them. Thanks in advance!

I'm really not sure how they'll do in a Mediterranean climate ... in my experience they like cool shade with good drainage ... certainly not direct sunlight.   Can you construct some shade for them?

    I agree with Dove.
    They are cool climate plants.

  • Thanks for the comments, am now worried about them thriving in this climate...Yes, i have a drawer which i would put outside to protect them from rain, what am not sure is about their position: late afternoon sun (only in summer) or early morning sun, all year.
  • Even that the drawer would provide shade too

I think northwest afternoon sun will be cooler.   The thing they really hate is rain so most auricula fans display them in auricula theatres which is just a fancy name for shelving to hold the individual pots.  They paint the shelving and backs black or dark green to show off the plants better and keep the pots black or plain terracotta.

  • Thank you, i’ll locate them in northwest area, and will try to do something like a theatre, with shelves. Thanks for the article, very clarifying and helpful !
