Plants that you can occasionally walk on

wrighttwrightt Posts: 234
I have some steps made from untreated wood with gaps in the middle so that I can plant in between. The steps are in part shade and the only thing I can think of is soleirolia (mind your own business) does anyone have any other suggestions?

There are dozens of plants that have some tolerance to being walked on. Have a look at agroforestry sites for under-storey planting (most have a commentary about whether they will tolerate being stepped on) or there are specialist sites which list and sell plants for different habitats, including shade. I've referred to 'stepables' a few times, which is a US site but has plenty of ideas for plants that you can get and will grow well in the UK

I would try to avoid myob. It spreads everywhere and almost impossible to get rid of.

Low growing, creeping thymes are good if it's a sunny aspect and the soil is well drained.

Edited to add: Sorry - just seen that you said it is partly shaded. Thymes might still work if they get some sun and you can give them really sharp drainage. I have thyme growing in an area where they are in the shade from about 3pm onwards.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
