    Possibly Lychnis chalcedonica.

    I think Pdoc's got it  :)

It's very hardy - had it in the Belgian garden; grows readily from seed and self seeds; easy to pull up if it gets too much but didn't for me and, lastly, pollinators love it.

Looks like it.  The colour is really good - I don't usually like orange but this is rich rather than brash - and the seeds are easy to collect for sowing and/or sharing.

The type is generally described as brick red, it has an orange cast to it, but there is also a white form and a pink form. (plant world seeds)

The pink and white ones are a different species to the red.

Plant world lists three types of Lychnis chalcedonica (maltese cross) , as well as three colours of Lychnis coronaria.

    Thank you one and all.
It seems I have a soft spot for Lychnis.  :) I love the coronaria too. My neighbour has the cerise with greyish leaves and I'm sure it must glow in the dark!
M-U I don't know whose garden it was in because I think it was on a picture/garden/loveliness thread but someone had listed their favourite plants; possibly from the forum. I'm not sure but I couldn't find it again. Luckily I can rely on my memory, 100%, to fail me so I'd saved the photo.  :D
    Thanks again everyone.  <3
