    I've just realised that if you change your username it works retroactively so it also changes for any previous posts you've made.   So that's good and I don't need to post here :).

    Yes - it just alters the name @toady2022 . If you wanted to start over again, you'd need to do it right from the start with a completely new set of personal info   :)

    The only problem with changing your name is that sometimes a thread can look odd, because people might have replied using your old name [ that won't change in a post by someone else ] and  folk wonder where the person is   ;)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    As a new user I am rather concerned about privacy settings on the forum as I don't want to start getting any junk email. I've successfully set up a username and enabled a "private profile" - does anyone know if this is all that's required to hide my email address.

    Your email is only visible to you - no one else, so no need to set it to a private profile  :)

    Absolutely correct. No need to hide your profile … your email will not be visible to the rest of us. 

    I would add that I’ve never had unwanted junk email via this site and I’ve been a member for at least 12 years.

    Testing to see if my display name changed with the process described above. Edit: It didn't, except when I'm on the main site instead of the forum.
