  Wait a bit more to see, it could be your Amsonia, but from certain angles looks more like a type of Euphorbia to me.

  Hi Dimwit, I have never grown them. I don't think they're thick, but perhaps the older leaves may be tougher. I think the stems are usually darker tone when they age, so that's the area that looks a bit different. But again, this could be due its young growth. Hope someone may be able to offer more pointers.

  The prominent central vein does look very much like the foliage of A.tabernaemontana ; they flower around May usually . Hope you're lucky with that one !

  I love Amsonia...especially in the autumn when the leaves turn a glorious butter yellow.
  As far as I know all are deciduous.
  Sorry I do not believe your evergreen plant is Amsonia sp.
