Plant flowering

Hi and thanks to all that answer!

I have an indoor plant (see pictires) and i was wondering?

1) Could anyone tell me what it's common name is?

2) I have successfully grown several from cuttings but when they flower they flower on long stems and only from the top. (See pic). The original flowered all over the plant and the flowers started close to the leaves. I shouldn't complain because they all flower but they look uch nicer without the long stems.

Any help greatly received!

Hi Ash. The leaves look like a kalanchoe.

The first 'common name' for these plants that springs to mind is Flaming Katy, but I'm sure there are many more.

It certainly looks like Kalandiva (the double form of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana), but I must confess I have neither seen such a beautiful colour nor big blooms like these! You must have come across a new variety which hasn't landed my surroundings yet. In order to keep the flower stalks short, you'd have to give it more light than you are able to in the window sill. I usually take cuttings of my kalanchoes in summer and let them root and grow in shade until autumn, when I move them to a sunny site once the flower buds come up. But then- we have sun in winter, and you don't!

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

Any other suggestions on keeping the flowering stems short? Or is it just getting them into the sunniest spot?

As I told you, every year I take cuttings from new growth on the stems rather than keeping the original plant itself. I do it because the plant gets leggy and unappealing, and by taking the cuttings not only I get shorter plants, but also some with more attractive leaves!
