To save plastic I plant my runner beans, mangetout, spinach, and beetroot in toilet tissue inner tubes wedged into a supermarket mushroom container... a shoe box is even better. Then when they are mature, plant the whole tube into the soil, therefore not disrupting the roots. I have attached a photo. Sue Bannon - Maidenhead, Berkshire
This is just an information thread @SilviSherr. For advice on a specific subject , it's best to start a thread with your query. However, in my opinion, no - they aren't great for many seeds because they break down. Not all seeds germinate, grow and get planted out quickly.
