  • Thanks for the apple suggestion - the robins devoured them! I've left some more because it looks like another cold one tonight. We have a bird feeder but I think the apples are more to their taste.

    image. You should have a look at the RSPB website - it has lots of information on what and how to feed different birds, and how to make an appropriate nest box if you want them to set at home at yours

    Just braved the cold and found this little fella on a daphne flower.
    Not sure he'll survive the coming overnight temps.  He's not moving but at least has the best possible bee breakfast to wake up to! :)

    Could always try him with some sugar and water Bob? Hopefully, he's in the best place like you say but has probably exhausted himself staying warm in this weather. 

    I put cheese and M&S granola (don't tell the family) out for the blackbirds & robins, not an ideal time to run out of bird food
  • I've just been out and made sure there's enough for all comers,even for a couple of visiting wood pigeons.The robin was having a bath this morning so I hope he managed to dry off!
    Poundland sell bags of dried mealworms,much cheaper there.
