Metal in ponds

My husband has cleaned up an old cast-iron down-pipe from our roof and has put it in our small pond so that the frogs and toads can hide in there for cover. I think it will be detrimental to them - do you agree? Many thanks

I have frogs in my well and I use an cast iron pump.
Thank you all for your replies - it has got paint on it so we will remove it. My husband said he liked the idea as it stayed down beneath the water whereas a plastic pipe needs to be weighted down. I love that we have frogs and toads in our garden and want to do everything I can to preserve them Very best wishes to all.
