    This place is stunning ....

Great plants all beautifully displayed .... and some really interesting "objets" ( I've got my eye on the crocodile but need a lottery win) ... and lovely cake.

Just off the M6 in Cumbria .... a must to visit at any time of year.

  • wow thanks guys. That's really exciting. so many to choose from. Mark56 I love the sound of Longacres - a huge wonderland of plants to get lost in! I am in Swansea but we have friends and family in Newbury and Winchester and my husband works up nr Manchester & Birmingham so I can go along with him if I take a day off. Now I'll have to get planning those weekends away!

  • I've also been recommended Hortus Loci and Burncoose

  • My favourite garden centre was taken over by Wyvale and has lost nearly everything that made me enjoy visiting itimage

Wnnt back once to see, never since!

  • My favourite garden centre is Polhill in Sevenoaks Kent. It is a family run business that has been running for over 50 years. They have excellent displays of flowers, shrubs etc. And really good knowledgeable staff.

Ashwood is on my "bucket list", hopefully we'll get there this summer. Webbs of Wychbold is worth a look, but I feel it's  more of a day out destination if you know what I mean. Useful if your OH isn't into gardening though.

Locally to me (Gloucestershire), a centre called Trioscape. Not part of a big chain, healthy plants and reasonable prices. Not a bad breakfast either ! Also Highfield Garden centre at Whitminster. Another independent with good plants and good coffee and cake image

I'm in the same area, actually live in Gloucester.  I'd add Three Counties GC, which although part of a chain has some of the best kept plants I've come across.  Call in early and you'll see staff dead heading whilst watering.  Not something everywhere does.
For nursery I'd say Dawn Nurseries at Shurdington near Cheltenham.  They have a massive range of 'home grown' plants in the spring plus some unusual plants too.

I have to agree that Wyevale taking over an independant GC is rarely a positive.

If ever you are in N London Enfield area there is a road called  Crews Hill which is lined with GC & nurseries though some are more like retail outlets now,  further round near Forty Hall is the Clockhouse still an independent Nursery/ GC. Near St Albans there is Aylett (the founder of which was a multiple gold medal winning Dahlia grower).  The latter 2 are our favourites.
