Hello, can anyone suggest any plants I can grow from seed now that will provide hot colours, red, orange, yellow etc (preferably very tall) this Summer? Or is that not really possible?
Dig up the tubers of your favourite ones and over winter. The following year the plants will reach 5ft or more I had another patch of BC and self-sown verbena bonariensis appeared amongst them, the color combo was beautiful

Wow, thank you all so much. I'm just back from work so will spend some time looking everything up. Brilliant suggestions, thank you all for going to the trouble.

Lots of possibilities jekylandhide,
Tithonia-torch is v tall, helianthus tall and short, rudbeckia hirta, Calendula Indian prince, nasturtium, Cosmos oranges and yellows.
And Dahlia Bishop's children - they grow quite fast, even though perennials, might start a bit later but should give colour well into the autumn.
Also Nasturtiums - you can get the trailing ones and tie them in, to grow up a wigwam or obelisk.
Tall tickweed (Coreopsis tinctoria) are about 1m tall and very easy to grow from seed. Monardas are easy too.
