Trees for all year round
in Plants
Hi,
I am looking for tree recommendations and not too costly. The requirements are;
- evergreen preferably / does not shed much
- can be planted in a small place around 50/75cm squared
- requires minimum maintenance
- ideally to grow with branches above 6ft as I am planting behind a fence and thus only require the branches to branch out at 6ft. and above (for privacy)
. I think robinia bessoniana may be good for these but not 100%
Thank you :-)

most trees are low maintenance, once established.
I'm wondering if a taller shrub would work well for you....because there's plenty of evergreen shrubs, but evergreen trees limit you somewhat to pines, and they 'shed' needles even if they're evergreen, perhaps not what you want.
The only point there that's difficult to understand/manage is the 50/75cm square planting hole.
-would a tree receive any water beyond that small area or is it all hard standing with that small gap?
-will the tree/shrub have room to grow out (not up) ?
-what eventual height are you after? is 3-5 meters enough for privacy ( i'm thinking Viburnham...easily shaped large shrub)
You have chosen an interesting tree but it is not evergreen. Evegreen trees normally mean two things. Either it can cause dense shade and not create that airy feel you seem to be looking for, or some cannot withstand harsh windy exposed sites or colder areas in the UK.
Have a look at Ligustrum Lucidum, there are other variagated forms too if you like that style. Trees are generally low maintenace until you need to prune and shape, which could be many years.
