Help identify
Can anyone here help me identify this tree. Unfortunately I don’t have a better picture.
i am told it has flowers in the summer and the foliage goes a reddish colour in autumn.
At 1st I thought it was a Cercidiphyllum but then noticed the flowers were white.
the tree needs a light prune and Im not sure to do it now or leave it to flower and then prune if it flowers in the spring.
any suggestions would be great

On second thoughts I believe it looks like Cornus kous. I’m just concerned that I am told it is summer flowering as I thought Kousa was spring
I can't ID it from the photo but the general rule of thumb when pruning flowering shrubs is to do it immediately after flowering. One good reason for this is that many have their flower buds on the tips of last year's growth and those will be lost or won't have time to develop properly if pruned at other times.
Defintiely looks like a Dogwood, but to be honest, it's tough to know which one. Google some to see.
