Japanese maple

My Acer I has grown huge and has lost its oriental shape, I've been advised to trim the roots, I have no idea what to do with it. It's about six feet high and in a pot.

Listening to Gardeners World on the radio the other day, they really dont like being pruned,it was radio 4 Friday afternoon, you could still listen to it. and I have never heard of trimming the roots, where is Doghouse Riley, he has lots of lovelly acers.  it must be a massive pot.  We put on in the garden in our last house, and it got to 10 feet, it was a lovelly variagated one, pale, green, cream pink but unfortunately we couldnt bring it with us.  I have quite a few in pots.

  • Thank you so much, I will catch up with the program.   I would have transplanted into the garden but haven't got the room for a massive tree,  I had thought these oriental looking trees were of a miniture variety when it was given to me as a gift.

    Much appreciated.

  • And thank you Freddie dad,  that confirms it, I'm not going to touch the roots.
