Lavender

seyfadesseyfades Posts: 146

I have problem with cats soiling my front garden, to prevent this, I read Lavender is a good plant to grow. I am hoping to create a border around the verge with bedding plants such as Petunia and Geranium. I would like to grow a bushy single lavender in the center of the verge.

Could I please have recommendation of lavender variety I can plant that will grow to be bushy but manageable ideally I want to grow just a single plant.

Any advice on lavender plant is welcome;

    I bought my lavender plants from these people and very healthy plants indeed, lots of choice and plenty of info on how to care for and prune them properly.

    A long time ago I made 4 formal rose beds in my front garden and edged them with lavender - approx 300 (very small) plants.
    It made no difference to the toilet habits of the local cats.

    2 things did help
    Thorny rose prunings scattered in the area that they were leaving their gratitude.

    and moth balls - cat's can't bear the smell of camphor BUT don't put them on soil, as the ingredients are poison to soil-life and any nearby plants

     imageThat will be a problem, I don't think I have anywhere I could put the month balls, unless I put them on the white stones. (having problem attaching picture).

    I  got Lavender Angustifolia - Hidcote and a lovely white one called  Purity, I have planted them alternately under my living room window in the hopes that they will make a low hedge that the pollinators will enjoy.

    So long as your garden conditions are right - have  go.
    I love lavender. Sadly I lost almost all of mine in the north facing front garden with heavy clay soil.
    It needs a very sunny spot and very free draining soil and thrives in my back garden

    Good luck
