Unhealthy hornbeam

last year my hornbeam hedge leaves started turning brown well before they should have. There was ivy rampaging through it so we renovated the hedge & cut away the ivy. The little new leaves have started coming through but  look unwell. any ideas what it is & how to treat. Should I do a quick imagewinter wash?

I have several hornbeam, those that are not exposed to the prevailing wind and sun do best. The ones that are exposed look like yours

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • that could be the issue. we are west facing with a prevailing south west coastal wind. the ones closest to the wall were the least brown so that may answer it. It was very wet and windy last year and has been this year so far. can I do anything about it? I;ve given them some manure to hopefully boost them as much as I can.

  • Ok so our hornbeam has had a great deal of tlc since last year. It looked like it was doing really well but over the last week I’ve noticed it browning, getting eaten & now what looks like mildew. Can anyone advise what the issues are & how I sort them please? Thanks
