When can I plant a lilac tree and a dwarf buddleia?

I had these delivered earlier than I meant to, both in pots intended for larger pots - the tree is around a metre and the buddleia is in a 2L pot. When should I plant out? They are intended for pots in the garden. If it's too cold would an unheated porch or garage be ok?

If they in pots already, there is no rush to re-pot to larger size pots. But it's whenever you have the time, but best done by spring. Whether in the orginal pot or the new larger size pots, keep them against a warm southerly or westerly wall. If you have a greenhouse or tall cold frame, you can keep them in there overnight if it's very cold, but generally, they should be able to cope if you place them close to a barrier or wall.

Unless they have been grown in a g/h which I doubt, they will be fine outside. They are hardy plants and need no special mollycoddling.
