Trees planted close together

MayLaneMayLane Posts: 203

Our sitting room looks out onto our neighbours fence which is 3 metres long. The closest part of this fence is a metre away from our house and the furthest end maybe 4.

They have planted four,  potentially 5 'blossom' trees along this fence line. No idea what they actually are.

Will their height likely be restricted by the close proximity to one another? Worried we will loose any light we get in this already dark room.

  • how close is the closest one to your house?

as you don't really want a tree within 10-15 feet of your house in case it damages the foundations, also do you know which way your drains run, as if they run under where the trees are they can damage/block them as well

are the trees to the south, west or east of your garden? in which case they'll cause shade in your garden, and with trees that can get to 20 foot tall (without knowing what sort i'm guessing here - it could be more) that could be significant shade.

Not a lot to go on to be honest.

Why not have a polite chat with your neighbour and ask how tall they plan to let them grow?

Maybe they just want them to form a hedge?

    Devon.

We are on heavy clay. The nearest is around a metre from the house.

I believe the fence line is east.

They don't know what they are. I believe if they get too big they will trim. I don't believe they would think about how tall or the placement. It isn't their forte. I was planting ours up and encouraged them to get a tree ?

They are lovely people. So I am sure it can be sorted. Our living room looks directly into their garden and the fence is four foot. It is a badly designed new estate.

They are planted right against the fence. I think the first was a crab Apple but can't tell with the new ones planted this week. They are also close to their garage so I can use that as a talking point.

Maybe a small canopy will be nice to look out onto. Otherwise it is their fence and then the towering wall and fence of the house higher up.

Right up to the fence is not good.  One metre away is also not good.  The neighbours need to leave a distance equivalent to twice the eventual height of each tree between each tree.

Doesn't seem they have done all their calculations.
