Compost bin
Hi
I wonder if any one has had the same weird experience as me.
I went out to my compost bin to find them half empty. The contents piled up behind them.
I ask my partner if he had done this but no and I haven't; it's been to cold.
Any ideas as to what creature might have done this?
I don't want to go disturbing a colony of nasties.

A badger looking for worms? If it is, it is often due to them starving, so I would treat the badger to some cat or dog food.
Or rats.
Thank you both.
If it's rats I don't want to encourage them, however, if it's a badger I don't want to let it starve.
I guess my answer is to carefully remove the compost material. If there are tunnel/s big is badger and smaller is rats and hope I meet neither.
There won't be a badger actually in there .... however my guess is that you have got rats in there ... take the lid off and pour a lot of water in there and keep doing it for a few days ............. they'll move on.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Rats, like most of us, don't like a wet bed...
We had a gale last night which woke me up about 2 am when I heard a funny scraping noise. When I looked out of the window I could see our empty plastic compost bin being slowly blown down the path towards me - and it's dalek shaped. Thought they were coming to get me!.
Animals do make tunnels in compost if they're living there. No tunnelling, no nesting. If they are are there, water but also banging puts them off . What the bin with a big stick every time you go past...
