Choisya collapsing
I had a beautiful Sundance Choisya growing well against a fence. Now the main branches have dropped towards the ground and so instead of the beautiful round shaped bush it has a big gap in the middle and at the top. Still looks healthy but looks like it's falling down. Help!

They tend to do this if left alone but respond very well to pruning. They can be cut back as hard as is necessary and will quickly form new shoots.
As Bob says , cut back as hard as necessary ; I reduced one by around 70% last year with loppers and a large hedge trimmer .
They soon recover !
Thank you! Is it ok to cut back this time of year? Do I cut back the big branches about half way down or how to i know where to cut? I have only had my first garden for the past 3 years, this was the first plant I put it and it has thrived and loves the spot.... but I have a lot to learn I expect as the plants get bigger!
It's up to you really , but some would say wait until late May before severely cutting back (if you can wait that long). Beware of late Spring frosts getting to any new tender growth .
When you do prune it , it doesn't really matter if the branches are thick or thin , they will all re-grow . Take it down and try to maintain an approximate dome-like shape .
Seasons as they are nowadays , they used to flower April/May ; I had one in full bloom late December/January . Use your own discretion . Cut now and you'll most likely lose this years flowers ; to put it bluntly your choice is flowers or a better shape !
Apologies for not being more helpful .
Thanks - it is helpful. I think I'll get the shape now. The leaves are a lovely colour anyway. The big hole in the middle with the large branches now almost lying down is not very attractive!
