Lilac tree - west coast of Scotland?

I love lilac trees and I spotted one online in the sale. If I buy it now I'm guessing it's not the right weather to plant it? We are still getting temps of zero (slightly warmer than inland).

We have clay soil which I've added lots of manure compost to - will that be ok? And is there a certain type that will do well (I'm not sure if you get different types!)?

There are a dozen Lilic tree species and many more hybrids, most are hardy which is good news. So before buying I would check what species or hybrid it is.

Syringa Palibin is certainly fully hardy as if that helps: it is also one that tends to be sold most by the trade, sometimes called Korean Lilac.

Thank you, it's a Korean Lilac I'm interested in! Would it be March before I could plant out?
