We had a Christmas pudding that I made three years ago and in the house move / renovations / etc. it got lost.

    Tasted fantastic.

Fruit cakes with heavy booze content dont "go off" people used to keep a tier of their wedding cake for the first babies Christening.  My MIL used to make a cake for me, with fruit and nuts top, seperate one for Hubby marzipan, and icing, they weight several pounds each, we couldnt eat them, a slice would have done, BUT one year brother-in-law dared to say he didnt want one, she was furious, so we never said a thing, I used to take mine to work, (big ward, lots of staff) I had my one slice.  Hubbies just went dry in the larder.  We dont speak to her now, so dont have to worry.  They were tasty, but way too big and heavy!

  • My parents were teetotal so my Mum's Christmas cake and puddings had no booze in.  I never remember them going off after months maturing though...

I made cakes for the builders when we had our old hayloft converted to bedrooms in Belgium.   They especially liked the Borrowdale teabread which is like an Xmas cake with no booze.  It never lasted more than one day cos they scoffed the lot.

Logan - don't like any icing really.  Too sugary.  Chocolate ganache is good but not on all cakes of course.
