If you go to the link from the thread it called it Acer palmatum if that helps you with a starting point.image

  • It is impossible to take it further than Acer palmatum from a general pic

There are now 1,000's of named Acer palmatum. and experts who spend their lives learning about each and every one.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Taking into account comments above can you suggest types of acer that wall give a similar effect - upright form with extending canopy, maximum height 3 to 4m? Green foliage in summer.

  • There are loads https://www.gardens4you.co.uk/index.php?/Trees/Acer-Trees

That's a nice border by the way.

Batwood, have you ever ordered from that company? The prices for acers are really low.  I was wondering how small the 'trees' that you received were?

Don't worry Batwood, I found it on the site.  It's a 9cm pot.

Agree.  Very nice. image    Would the OP consider describing some of the varieties we're seeing there?

I think we could all spot the Hosta.  The big-leaf plant next to the Hosta, is that a Rodgersia?

    above the Hosta?  below it?

  • Above the Hosta looks like a Dicentra Alba but hard to be sure from that resolution.

www.larchfieldtrees.com  are Acer specialists they have a comprehensive catalogue with descriptions of Height colour leaf shape etc.

    AB Still learning

  • Don't think it's a Dicentra above the hosta ....... looks more like Polygonatum x hybridum to me (Solomon's Seal).

If you go to the link the lady (think she's in America from memory) names all the plants in the border.  Hope that helps.
