Scabious - to cut or not to cut

Hi

I have 2 scabious 'kudos' in my garden which are still flowering (Feb) from small plants last summer (though no longer masses of flowers)!  The base of the plant has grown bigger than I want in my small garden.  I'm wondering should I cut it back?  Split it?  Leave it alone?

Thanks

If you only planted them in last year, they normally don't need splitting, but if you want to, it's fine to do so too. I would allow them to flower a bit and then cut back in middle of February to March.

  • If the base is to big, the only thing to do is to split it. That can be done any time of year, as long as it isn't during a drought or when the ground is frozen, preferably as early in spring as possible or during autumn.
