Lawn alternatives for wet shady area
I'm looking for recommendations for a lawn alternative for a section of my garden which is quite wet in winter, but dry in summer (it's under trees) and very shady. It has quite a bit of foot traffic and it's part of the existing lawn so something like fake grass would look really odd. I'd like a plant alternative that will grow happily in wet shady conditions and can tolerate being trampled! Bit of a tall order I know but any suggestions welcome!

Moss would grow. but wouldn't enjoy too much traffic.
A better bet might be 'Irish moss' or pearlwort (Sagina procumbens), which will take fairly heavy foot traffic and can make a good lawn alternative.
However many people consider it a pernicious weed, as it can be invasive if conditions suit it.. if you are prepared for this then it can look quite good, giving a green carpet that doesn't need mowing, though it may still need weeding, which will have to be done by hand.

I might upset a few people with this suggestion but what about mind-your-own-business (Soleirolia soleirolii). Looks green from a distance, doesn't mind trampling, loves the shade and the wet. Will definitely spread, but I'm not sure if you mind that?
