compost for hellebore seedlings to grow on in
Hello all.
Not been on here for a while.
i am trying to find a good mix to grow on hellebore orientalis in pots to flowering size. i gradually pot on as they grow but i find a lot just don't thrive and flower very poorly i feed them with an all round fertiliser i was thinking of doing a mix with a good amount of leaf mould containing chip bark for substance.
If there is any one out there that can guide me i would be most grateful i grow them on in pots so that i can see if they are worth putting in the garden when they flower.i would love to know what the experts use for them but just cannot find any information.

I grew my last lot on in a roughly half and half mix of JI No 3 (it could've been No 2 but I think it was 3) and soil conditioner (composted bark?) with a handful of horticultural grit added to each potful ... it must've suited them as they're flowering this year

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I lined out a load of hellebore seedlings in the veg plot. I did pot some up into three inch pots in similar. I think they need some soil in there, the normal multipurpose stuff is too light.
Thanks guys.
I will experiment with the lashings of leaf mould i have and mix it with some John innes that dove from above has used, some composted bark with a light additive of lime.
I seem to get just one skinny stalk and flower. it may be that they are just runts but not all surely. it must be my mistakes that are causing the weak ness.
i will let you all know if my mix makes for a better plant.
