Sandstone

Hi can anyone tell me the best way to clear sandstone which is under my soil

    Dynamite?  Pneumatic drill?  I take it this is solid bedrock.

    Might be simpler to build raised beds and import some good top soil if your intention is to grow plants.

    How far down is it? Is it in big chunks - perhaps the remnants of an old wall?? If so, just dig it out.

  • You might need a pickaxe or mattock if it's buried wall footings.  From bitter experience, I'd definitely recommend a mattock for big, buried stones - it's easy to bend digging forks or spades and a mattock makes levering easy.  image
