When to sow sweetpeas
I want to grow some sweet peas in the polytunnel this year. I've just bought the seed, and the packet says they can be planted indoors October to January or outdoors March and April. As I'm going to start them in a propagator and keep them away from frost until it's safe to plant them in the polytunnel border, is it OK to start now, even though its February? And do you know why the seed merchant doesn't recommend February?
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

Hi Emerion
Yes you can sow sweetpeas now, i don't know why they miss out February.
Do you mean a heated propagator Emerion? Sweet peas are hardy annuals and don't need it. I start mine off on a windowsill in March.
The window of recommended sowing time varies depending on your location and climate. Early sowings do better down south, further north you're doomed to failure starting too early. I'm in the north west and have found March works best for me.
Maybe sow some now, and some next month.
Thanks very much for that everyone. We're in South west Wales, but fairly high up, so probably equivalent to the Staffordshire/Cheshire bit of England. So I think a few now and some more in mid March, all on the windowsill. I like the idea of extending the season. Can't wait!
