What Are These Plants?

Hello there!

Today I need help with identifying two plants.

First up is this one. I've seen these guys/or girls as houseplants or potted in patio or doorsteps.

Next up, this one. What is it? Can a bonsai be made out of it?

  • Tricky to tell exactly from here . The first one is probably one of the Lawson cypresses the second is a Pinus. They could be bonsai especially the Pinus.

Is there something l can do that'll help you identify them better?

So... Any idea what kind of pine?

Agree with Iain, a type of Lawson cypress and a type of pinus.

Have you tried to google the names you have been given for further information on these trees?  Care advice for cypress is petty much the same for all types.

If you want to track down an exact Latin name there are thousands of images you could look through to find a perfect match.

    Good luck.

  • Whether you bonsai them or not, they'll both be happiest kept outside ... they won't like living indoors.

Alright, done easily. However, full direct sunlight or indirect full?

  • Sorry not to be specific but as mentioned there are so many cultivars available it's hard to be more accurate from a picture. Maybe someone  more expert than me can help.

  • Not really knowing your climate it's hard for me to say whether they need full or indirect sun ... here they'd be happy with either but we don't get your temperatures.

Have a google, see what part of the world they might be native to and what the climate there is likely to be.
