Fuschias

I'm sure there were buds on my well established plant this time last year. I'm hoping I haven't been too heavy handed when pruning as there are no signs of life on it yet.

I have a hedge of fuchsia and to look at it now you would think it was totally dead. Last winter it was the same. I can assure you that come Spring it will start to bud and flourish again and come Summer you will wonder what you were worried about. The first year I had it I couldn't imagine it coming back to life but was reassured it would and it did. Don't think your pruning will have caused any problems. Shouldn't be too long before you see signs of life.

  • Many thanks I feel reassured now.

I have hedge fuchsias, I cut them right down to the ground in February, by summer they are 5’ tall.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Watch out for late frosts. They can cut back the new growth on hardy fuchsias.
