over watered plant areca plalm

Hello All,

Recently I got a areca palm plant from ikea, have been watering it almost everyday. Some of the leaves have dried up which I have trimmed now, some of the tips of leaves are dried too.

How do I solve this problem? Should I change the soil?

Thanks for your help.

  • stop watering it for one, at this time of year event the most tropical of plants don't need that much water. you want the surface of the soil to be dry to the touch before you water it again, check the bottom of the pot, if it wet it might even need draining

make sure its not in a draft or next to a radiator and in plenty of light, careful near windows as they can get cold at night and in really cold weather indoor plants can get cold damage.

  • This palm was bought a week ago not been watered but soil still moist. Has blackmarks on leaves, any ideas I wonder if it's been over watered before sale?
  • Also worth checking if they are in a pot with drainage holes inside a decorative pot OR planted directly in the decorative pot without drainage - many plants are sold like this, and they are very difficult to care for, without water logging.
