Hmmm yea I thought something like that. I tried to take it out very carefully but the very bottom of the root snapped off so I'm sure will regrow. I couldn't get at it due to it being so close to the other plant. I may have to wait until the campanula establishes more before I go digging down into the compost.

Looks a bit like a dandelion.
Well, it's not a campanula so, given that a weed is a plant in the wrong place yes, it's a weed.
Possible dandelion family, or one of the sow thistles ....... or possibly even a brassica like a broccoli ...
