Radish Variety - Help Me Choose (picture)
in Plants
Hello, I am looking for the most pungent, tear inducing variety from this bunch... You know, the kind that packs a punch when eaten.
Your help is greatly appreciated, and sorry for the glare in the picture.

Only a guess from reading the packaging shown but... Red meat, Scarlet globe and Topsi are labeled as "mild" and "delicate flavour". They might not have the taste you're looking for.
Have you already bought those seeds? I'd experiment and sow a few of each then have a taste test
. Radishes are a reasonably quick crop to grow.
Don't forget to label them clearly, then continue your successive sowings with your favourite
.
The flavour of a radish tends to be more fiery if it's grown 'harder and slower' ... however it will also be less tender than the milder radishes which result from being grown quickly in good conditions.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Ahh... That's good to know Dove ?. How do you change the way they grow?
Still learning here. I just plant them and wait to see if they grow, with no special regime.
Thanks everyone for your help
I think I'll go with the cherry belle.

Sorry ... missed this one Kitty .... cooler temps, less fertiliser, less water ... they'll have more flavour but they'll not be as tender.
I prefer them tender.

Thanks Dove
. Interesting to learn the effect that difference in temps/water/fert have on the flavour. As a learner, I'm usually just happy if they grow and are edible.

I expect mine grow a bit hotter due to lower temps further north than you, but they get plenty of rainwater up here ☔?.
