What's Happening to My Ficus?!

So, I had procured a Ficus Microcarpa from a nursery. It has been shedding a couple of leaves every other day, I had attributed to change in environment and overwatering (I had been misting the soil it was in when it got dry to touch. Anyway, it had a too many healthy leaves to have been a serious worry. At that point it looked like this

However I had to go out of town for a week and after I came back the Ficus looked like this

What exactly happened?! Can it be fixed? I really like this plant. Please help!!!

Additional Info- The week I was out, the average temperature ranged from 12-28 Degrees Centigrade and Avg Humidity was 35-42%. The Ficus was kept on the roof in full sun. A few other plants like a Murraya Paniculata also has yellow leaves on the lower levels of the plant and drooping green leaves throughout.
Other plants like Juniper have had no change.

  • Oh dear it does look sad,

dont know where you live but certainly not in the UK, I would say your ficus has dried out and the soil it’s in doesn’t look ideal either.

Although it doesn’t like much water I would think a plant the size yours appears to be would want more than a spray mist, also it prefers free draining soil. Not sure if it will survive as its classed as a evergreen and it’s dropped all it’s leaves so cannot synthesis.

If you have to leave your plants for a week or more it’s a good idea to put them in the shade so they have more chance of not suffering drought conditions.

     I live in India.

Yeah, I tried changing the soil but the nursery sold it in clay soil. Tried but couldn't take the plant out of the soil clump. Was thinking of dissolving the soil by water add transferring it to 50:50 Coco peat and sand. But seeing how it's now... Not even sure if it can survive the transfer.

I hadn't worried about the soil before because all kinds of Ficus grows everywhere here. Religiosa and Bengalensis Ficus are almost like a pest. So I thought normal soil would work fine so I just put in some compost in normal soil and thought it'd work

It does have a single green apical bud remaining though.
