Identify this piece of root

Hi, I’m a proud new allotment holder with limited experience of growing veg. While clearing the site I found lots of roots like these. Does anyone know what they are, if I need to clear them out of the soil and if they can be composted?

sorry to say that's horsetail/maretail,
dig them up and burn them - repeat this process till the end of time.
