I tried to quote this post but no idea how the quote button works!
"Oh dear. Ten years ago, there was no such thing as the bucket list. Now, everyone has to have one, to go with the collection of books telling you about the 100 or even 1,000 books you must read, paintings you must see, films you must watch, music you must hear, and places you must go before you die. All to make us spend money we haven't got on things we don't need, so publishers and the tourism industry can enrich their shareholders and the moneylenders."
I think travel is one of the best things to spend money on. I never see it as money wasted.
I'd rather save money to travel and not buy material things that don't make you happy in the long run. Travel definitely makes me happy
!I don't have a bucket list as such, I just have a long list of places I want to go. I would like to see the northern lights though. We tried in Iceland but it wasn't to be. I still came back in love with the place!
Aurumnglory, It depends on age and your need to see what is over the hill, I got my fill of travel not in the best circumstances and often found once I topped the hill it was so bad you back peddled fast. Came a time when my wife and I could please ourselves and did, never beach people we saw many wonderful things then due to her illness we were confined to these isles and found what we had been missing. We live in the best place in the world as far as i am concerned, some of the arid places I have been made me realise our temperate weather with its rainfall, the ability to have beautiful gardens and landscapes are beyond measure. My travel is now the Uk with no desire to go abroad ever again and find the youngsters in the family are having a gap year then settling to holidays here. We travelled because we had too you probably travel because you can, my Granddaughter said on Saturday, " the world is now getting much of a sameness" she is right.
If I have to close my eyes tomorrow I will be grateful for the wonderful life I have had. Travel has been a large part of my time, in many different cultures. I am so proud of my offspring who have grown up unafraid of the world and have embraced many cultures in their own lives There is no bigotry here.
we then had the marvellous chance to retire to the country and have some land which we work, animals we always wanted and so far, God willing, our health.
sadly this thread seems a little too “hot” for me, so I have said my bit and will sign off
Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them.” A A Milne
Lilly Pilly You are right. I would not change one second of my life, because of what I did I met and enjoyed working with Basuto's Bechuanalanders Swazi and Indian Troops, we mixed with Middle Eastern people of all faiths and saw things I would never have seen, one truth is we all have the same ambitions and apart from colour are the same in outlook and needs. My Wife and I travelled and had fun doing fun things, but then we did not expect little England to be at the end of the flight as some do, we joined in with the locals and ate what they ate, apart from Squid, my wife ate it i tried and gave up, we were certainly made welcome. Now my life is here I am travelled out and watching the chaos at airports am very glad of that, modern travel seems more like punishment.
