I have a sarcococca, and I live in Zone 7b in central MD. The plant is in the shade. How should I water it? Specifically, should I water it in the winter?

We are all based in the UK. You may find more helpful answers nearer to home.
Over here we normally grow them in the ground and they get rained on throughout the year! So I guess my answer is to water it all year through.
