Chimney pot as focal point

Hope I have posted this in the right section.
A neighbour gave me a Victorian chimney pot for Christmas, he reckoned it dates from 1882. It has an uneven base,but my husband is confident that he can level it. I was wondering if anyone has any advice re: installation , as I want to place it in a flower bed and put pots of various flowers in the top of it through the year.
